From a 1930's radio program in Chicago, to multiple states around America, and now to schools all around the world, various forms of Battle of the Books (BOB) exist in some derivative of the original.  IBOB's founder and creator Bryant McEntire brought the BOB idea from North Carolina to Hong Kong in 2000 and created Hong Kong Battle of the Books (HKBOB) which has been hugely successful and continues today as a face-to-face version much like the original.  Under the auspices of the Association of Librarians of English Speaking Schools Hong Kong (ALESS), HKBOB grew from 2000 to 2004 from 1 to over 30 international primary and secondary schools. In 2005 the International Association of School Librarianship (IASL) and the Hong Kong Teacher-Librarians' Association (HKTLA) awarded an "Excellence Award in Organising Joint School Activities" for HKBOB's success and positive impact on reading culture citywide.  Since that time, HKBOB has continued to flourish with over 60 international and local schools competing cooperatively this year in the city.  Thank you NCSLMA for helping us get off the ground!
